New Best Lap of Phillip Island by Michel Fabrizio in Q2
A seemly unstoppable Michel Fabrizio shone brightly today in Qualifying 2 after setting an astonishing 1'30.387, new Best Lap of the track for the eni FIM Superbike World Championship. The Red Devils Roma rider continues his successful round 1 campaign and finishes ahead of Leon Camier (FIXI Crescent Suzuki), first one to get into the 1'30 seconds bracket for what was already a remarkable lap-time of 1'30.727.
Camier was followed closely by fellow Englishman Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team), who is building up momentum and closing the gap to the top. Eugene Laverty (Aprilia Racing Team) and Marco Melandri (BMW Motorrad GoldBet SBK) ended up 4th and 5th respectively ahead of Laverty's team mate Sylvain Guintoli and Leon Haslam (Pata Honda World Superbike).
Despite some aches and pains caused by the big crash in Free Practice 1, Carlos Checa (Ducati Team Alstare) set the 8th fastest time of the session and was finally able to do a good number of laps. Last two riders to get a top-ten finish were Jonathan Rea (Pata Honda World Superbike) and Davide Giugliano (Althea Racing Aprilia).
The list of 15 riders qualified for the afternoon's Tissot-Superpole is completed by Chaz Davies (BMW Motorrad GoldBet SBK), Loris Baz (Kawasaki Racing Team), Max Neukirchner (MR-Racing Ducati), Jamie Stauffer (Team Honda Racing) and Ivan Clementi (HTM Racing BMW).
Round 1 is unfortunately over for Ayrton Badovini (Ducati Team Alstare), due to a right heel bone fracture suffered following a high-side at Turn 12 in yesterday's Free Practice 1.
